Philosophy of Homework

Homework has many purposes.  Children, parents, and educators need to understand the purposes of assignments and work together so that we all try to achieve the same goals.

Homework allows students to practice skills they are learning in class.

Homework teaches responsibility, perseverance, and time management.

Homework develops self-discipline, personal study skills and habits.

Homework provides parents with a link to their child's school and academic life.

4th Grade Homework Policy

At the beginning of the year each child should pick a spot somewhere in the house where he/she has a spot to do his/her work.  This spot should:

  have good lighting

be free from distractions (radio, tv, etc.)

have a large enough working space for books

As parents you can help your child by providing the above items along with:

setting up a time each night to complete the work

providing a spot to put the book bag each night so it can easily be located the next morning

and checking with your child each night by asking questions about his/her work.

If Work Is Not Done

Homework is generally due the following school day.  If the schoolwork is not completed by the following day your child will receive an "X" on the  homework chart.  Three "X's" in a row earn the child a phone call home to the parent.

The uncompleted assignment must be turned in by the following day or your child will be staying in at recess to finish that assignment.  This is to keep him/her from falling behind.

By working together on this policy we can make 4th grade a successful year for your child.
